Structure Memo Deadline is August 1st for the October Exam and April 2 for the June Exam. Late filing is allowed until Sept. 15 for October Exam and May 15 for June exam for an additional fee. Special timeframes apply to applicants who failed previous exam. |

| Structure | The California First Year Exam is a one day exam
with two components: a four hour essay exam in the morning with four questions
drawn from Contracts (including Articles 1 and 2 of the U.C.C.), Criminal Law, and Torts;
and a three hour, 100 multiple choice question exam in the afternoon covering the same
topics. Detailed knowledge of California law is not required. |
| Scoring | The Exam is scored as follows: each portion of the
exam is weighed equally, with a total score of 800 points (400 for multiple choice and 100
for each of the four essays) available. Passing score is 560 or higher. |
| Who Must Take the Exam | Every person who intends to seek admission to the California Bar must take the exam following completion of their first year of law school, EXCEPT students attending ABA accredited (or provisionally accredited) law schools or members of another US Bar or Common Law Foreign Jurisdiction. |
